MOSCOW, Jan 13 (PRIME) -- The cargo traffic through the Northern Sea Route amounted to 34.034 million tonnes in 2022, exceeding the target of the federal project by more than 2 million tonnes, nuclear power corporation overseeing the project Rosatom said on Friday.

"In spite of the external influence, growth of the Russian cargo traffic through the Northern Sea Route could be seen in the entire last year. The Northern Sea Route cargo traffic grew by 966,000 tonnes in 2022 thanks to Russian companies. Annual growth amounted to 3%," Deputy CEO Vyacheslav Rusha said, as cited by the company.

As of mid-December, oil and gas investment projects accounted for most of cargo consignations. Liquefied natural gas and gas condensate shipments exceeded 20 billion tonnes, oil and oil products 7 billion tonnes.
